John Sangenario, D.V.M.
Dr. Sangenario (or “Dr. John”) established Dominion Veterinary Service, an ambulatory practice in 1984 and built a medical/surgical facility, Dominion Equine Clinic, in 1994. He also serves as the veterinarian for the Virginia Zoological Park.
Dr. John grew up in Massachusetts. He completed his undergraduate education at Western Kentucky University in 1975 and received his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University in 1979. He worked for Urbana Veterinary Hospital for five years in Urbana, Ohio.
Dr. John met Susan while in undergraduate school and they married in 1979. They have four children, who have either graduated from or are attending Virginia Tech, and who are successfully pursuing exciting careers in various health sciences and mass communications.
Dr. John is focused on providing a service-oriented, broad-based equine veterinary practice. He attends many continuing educational programs to bring his equine community the most current information and skills. He is member of ISLEP (International Society of Locomotor Equine Pathology). He is currently completing a comprehensive program (eight modules) of advanced education in the field of equine lameness and osteoarticular, musculotendinous and nervous pathology covering the different parts of the locomotor system of the horse.
Other memberships include American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), and American Association of Zoological Veterinarians (AAZV). He serves on the board of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund.
Dr. John’s interests include spending time with his family, watching sports, especially hockey and baseball, gardening, landscaping and fishing.
