Dr. Cachero grew up in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, and is very happy to be back in her home town. She was an enthusiastic member of the Virginia Beach Horse Show Association along with her grey thoroughbred gelding, Iceman, and graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1996. Following high school, Dr. Cachero enrolled in the Animal and Poultry Sciences department at Virginia Polytechnic and State University, graduating magna cum laude in 2000. She then attended Purdue University, where she obtained her Master of Science degree in embryology and reproductive physiology. During her Masters studies, she performed research in the reproduction of several domestic livestock species, and also had the opportunity to travel to South Africa for several months to work with African antelope and cat species. She graduated from Purdue in 2003 with her M.S. degree. She then attended the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, where she pursued the Equine Studies track and completed elective rotations in Emergency and Critical Care at the New Bolton Center and Equine Orthopedics at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, as well as clinical externships at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY and Equine Medical Center of Ocala in Florida. She graduated in May of 2008 and joined Dominion Equine Clinic in that same month.
Dr. Cachero enjoys the challenges of a busy and varied general veterinary practice. Her specific interests include equine reproduction and equine sports medicine. While striving to stay up to date with the newest advances in all areas of equine medicine, she has also had the opportunity to obtain additional training in diagnostic ultrasound techniques and has completed over 200 hours of continuing education in animal chiropractic care. She is currently certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association. In addition to the IVCA, she is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association, and is licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina.
Dr. Cachero resides in Chesapeake with her husband, John, their beautiful daughter, and their menagerie of dogs, cats and horses. She enjoys riding hunter/jumpers, swing dancing, going to the beach, and getting way too excited about college sports.
